AMBAS
ABOUT
Ambas was created and established in 2002 by Sophie Galeras y Mollinedo who settled in Rome after living in London, Geneva, New York and Paris. Following her dreams and inspirations a βbeachwearβ collection was born in 2004, where the primary focus became the fabric. The original idea was to play around with organic cotton gauze - a simple delicate material. The charm and allure of gauze lie in itβs lightness, transparency and the gentle touch of a natural fabric - woven and dyed for thousands of years across the East and the Mediterranean.
The inspiration is drawn from the effortless simplicity and refined style of Jacqueline and Lee Bouvier in the 1960βs - a time when fashion became streamlined and feminine, free of excess. The joy of working with cotton gauze naturally inspired her to create cashmere gauze shawls - feather-light and effortlessly warm. Today both fabrics are handwoven and dyed exclusively for Ambas, revealing new possibilities with each passing season. The collection has since expanded to include Italian-made swimsuits in soft velvety Lycra, infused with a subtle touch of glamourous chic.
